What is Hypertension

High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is when the pressure in your blood vessels is unusually high. If the pressure is consistently too high, it puts a strain on your heart and could lead to strokes, heart attacks and kidney damage. Things that increase your chances of high blood pressure include being overweight, having an unhealthy diet, smoking and not exercising enough.

What are the signs of Hypertension

High blood pressure does not usually have any symptoms. The only way to find out if you have it is to get your blood pressure checked. Lifestyle changes like eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly can help lower high blood pressure. Some people also need to take medicines.

How can I get a blood pressure check

You can get a free blood pressure check from pharmacies across Bexhill. To find your nearest community pharmacy visit NHS.UK Alternatively, your GP practice may invite you in for a blood pressure check, or may routinely check this as part of a consultation.
